With my research paper I plan on starting the paper off with the background of instant replay in sports and telling about how it is exactly used in sports. I will talk about the down sides and benifits that instant replay has in sports. I will use opinions from sports writers and players of different sports and my own.

Take Back

Well after my previous post I found a great article that ProQuest provided. It provided two opinions from respected sport writers from the Sporting News magazine. Each talks about their different opinions on whether instant replay should be in sports or should not be. This will add great value to my paper with having different opinions from sports writers.

Ann.

Well earlier today and tonight I have spent time working on my annotative bib. I have been using all sources that I get from the ProQuest database. The material that I have been finding from the ProQuest database has been subpar in my standards. After finding and reading material from ProQuest database and a search engine such as Google, I think that the quality and quantity side the Google produced material.

Annotations

Heinzl, Mark. "High-Tech, Anyone?; At Some Tennis Tournaments, Computerized
Instant Replay Gets Last Word on Line Calls." The Wall Street Journal (2006). Proquest. Karl E. Mundt Lib., Madison, South Dakota. 24 Apr. 2006.

This piece from The Wall Street Journal talks about the new Instant Replay in Tennis. In the article it tells about when a close call on if the ball was out of bounds or not, the referee went to the instant replay to get the exact call correct instead of going by what they would think. This article is intended for tennis fans and sport enthusiasts who would like to know about the new Instant Replay in the sport of tennis.

Here is a quick annotation that I compiled for class today. I know it needs a lot of work and can be improved a lot, which is something I will have to do for class on Wednesday. I plan on compliling most of my sources from online databases such as Proquest.

Hmmm...

Well i'm not really sure what to write about. This weekend I will be attempting to get some opinions and quotes from people about Instant Replay. My goal is to try and get view from both sides of the issue....replay helps sports, or replay hurts sports. With Instant Replay being fairly new it is rather difficult to find books that will talk about it. I have been messing around with the different databases from the DSU library and have found a couple things that I had not put on my fisrt works citied that we turned in. One of the main reasons that I was not a fan of the databases is becuase it seemed like I could only view the first couple sentenses of the material, but now I can enjoy the entire work, which as you can imagine is a big help. One thing that could be a problem with sending emails asking for someones opinion is if they will respond in time. This would not be much of a problem becuase I am not really relying heavily on quotes and/or opinions.

Finally did research!

Tonight I finally did some actual research. What I found was that searching on Google produced a lot more information and a lot better information in terms of quality then searching on some databases such as Proquest on the Dakota State University Library website. This wasn't that much of a suprise to me becuase I figured that more information would be available on Google then on a DSU database. It seemed like the databases did not have much information on them about Instant Replay in sports becuase it is fairly new in most sports.

Database Research

Today we had class in the library to learn how to research our topics on the library databases. Researching your topic with the databases is pretty easy. The hard part in it is to find material that will actually enhance your paper instead of just filling it up. During class I tried out searching under the subject of Sports and Physical Fitness. After that I have many choices to choose from such as Proquest and and Eric database. I only found a couple of articles that may help me out, but should find more after messing around with it for awhile. Some of the words I used to search with were sports, replay, and 'Replay in Sports'. I still plan to use quotes and some material from interviews as a big help to show different opinions. This weekend I plan to do a lot of research and possibly start puting together a web of ideas.

The Start

Today I thought about how detailed I should get in my research paper and what to focus it on. This was my first real work that I have done on my paper. I have decided to relate my paper on the following sports: football, tennis, baseball, basketball. Out of these four sports, football will be the only one that I will talk about the NCAA side of it. Just a reminder, my topic is on video replay in sports. Three of the four sports I will be talking about has replay right now, baseball being the odd one out. I am still trying to think of a focus question. Also I am thinking about certain people to interview. I would like to get a quote from someone that is involved with the sports such as a player and/or a commitee member.

Ch. 1-4

I think that reading these chapters will really help me with my paper. I learned on how to go about finding a quality research topic. Reading ch. 1 will help me in starting my paper. Finding a purpose and sticking with it was a helpful point that I read in the book. Also managing my paper and keeping on plan was probably the greatest point that I took from those four chapters.

Research Topic

I have decided to write my research paper on replay technology in sports. More specifically I will talk about football, tennis, baseball, and basketball. I will probably just stick to the NCAA and professional sports. I hope to be able to get some quotes from individuals involved in these sports. I hope to include my opinion and also opinions of others. I have a lot of knowledge with this subject already, so I do not expect to have to do too much research.
